Digital Presence

For my next class, Blogs & Wikis, I decided that I should figure out which online tools I use and want to use. But first, I must update everything and be sure it all works! As of now, I have three blogs, this one, one on the DEN network, and a new one at MDoore's Posterous.

Then I also have a wiki, well a few of them to be more correct, though AK Classroom and Digital Living are the ones I use currently. They are public but don't stay that way all the time, it depends on my needs as a teacher. Digital Living was set up for a group of us who present at conferences and has evolved along the way. It keeps our notes and things we would like to share with participants readily available.

Finally I also have Twitter which is growing and becoming more and more useful. That too goes from being private to public at times.

I read an article about being transparent on the Web, with all I do that is listed above, I am fast becoming transparent and I definitely have a digital presence.

ASTE 2012

Once again it is time to get ready for ASTE. This year I am presenting about the STEM lessons I and my colleagues have been working on. If I had only that to work on, how wonderful. But no, I have once again loaded my plate with a lot. Salmon curriculum, iPods here there and everywhere, tablet learning, QR Code class to teach, and not to forget the upcoming Shabbaton on the Slopes, teaching at that too this year!

Getting ready for ASTE 2011

A couple more days and I'll be co-presenting at ASTE for the third year in a row. Exciting, nerve wracking as usual... Nurturing student writing through podcasting...fun to find all the different resources, contact people all over the world for permission to build on their work. I think that is a good thing about the Internet, being able to have a wider network of people who do similar work. As always, presenting with others is fun, exciting and challenging!

Winter Break 2010

Winter break begins and I am still getting over a cold. I expect that this is better than just getting sick with the prospect of being sick the whole break. My latest endeavor is to integrate technology into my Hebrew classes. Duh...took me long enough too. It is as if for the past 12 years as a 6th grade teacher and an EdTech teacher I don't know any better...just a little slow. I read an article from Behrman House in the December issue of Open Lion Online and finally connected the dots to bringing technology into my class. I have a laptop and a projector. What more do I need? Access to the Internet will come later. A brief survey of my students let me know that all have either their own computer/mobile device or access to their parents' computer. Now to take this break and create or build off of what I find out there and begin to integrate techology into the class!
