My Educational Philosophy...

My philosophy of education is an ongoing process. It changes from year to year depending on what I am doing, depending on what I am learning and depending on where I am at any given time. The basics stay the same. The philosophy that I wrote 13 years ago and the one I wrote for this video have similar elements.

I started out creating this by first trying to write something up. I looked at my philosophy from 13 years ago and threw it out, thought to start from scratch. Did not work too well...

Started again by looking at the thousands of photos that I'd collected over the years and found what I was looking for in them. My love of teaching, it is not just in the day to day academics but the fun I have as a teacher.

I would encourage my students if they must write something, to look at pictures for inspiration. Often I have them do just that, create a picture first then write about it.

I prefer music to be in a video, with or without voice it makes watching so much more pleasant. With Garage Band it is so incredibly easy to create nice music. This is something my kids naturally enjoy and can get lost in for hours if I'd let them.

  1. Your use of photos was excellent. All those images are parts of a story - just waiting to happen. Your philosophy shows you have a real commitment to student success and to making those connections that can support them throughout their life.
